We Build What IKEA Should Have Made

HouseMods 3D started by accident.

Our founder — a mechanical design engineer with a background at Toyota and an active engineering consultancy serving clients worldwide — designed a custom insert for his daughter's crafting cart. A family member suggested posting it on Etsy. A few weeks later, the first order came in. Then came a five-star review. Then another.

That early encouragement was all it took.

What started as a single listing in a Brooklyn basement grew into a full production and fulfillment operation — still in that same basement — now spanning multiple product lines covering IKEA ALEX drawers, Trofast bins, Kallax shelves, rolling carts, and beyond.

The problem turned out to be universal: common storage furniture everywhere, but nothing on the market that fit precisely inside it. Generic organizers were too small, too big, or simply not designed with real drawers in mind. So we kept designing.

Every insert in our catalog starts with precise measurements and goes through multiple design iterations before it ships. We use the same design discipline we apply to professional engineering work — tolerances matter, function matters, and aesthetics matter. The result is a product that slides in perfectly, holds its position, and makes your space work the way it should.

We started with IKEA — ALEX drawers, Trofast bins, Kallax shelves, and rolling carts — because deep specialization is the only way to get the fit right.

We Don't Stop at IKEA

Since launching, customers have reached out asking for inserts sized for other common drawers and rolling carts — including those from Michaels and Home Depot. We listen. Every custom request gets personal attention, and if a solution doesn't exist in our catalog yet, we design it. Many of those custom designs have since become catalog products.
